The Airport Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the grounds and facilities at the airport. The Technician will operate, maintain, and securely store groundskeeping equipment.

General Duties:

  • Edge along all curbs, sidewalks and hardscapes as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Remove and/or treat weeds and unwanted plants as needed or as directed by supervisor.
  • Safely operate mowers, string trimmers, edgers, chain saws and small hand tools in performing job assignments.
  • Operate a backpack or handheld blower for debris clean-up as necessary or as prescribed by supervisor.
  • Pick-up, empty and remove debris and trash from grounds and from aircraft hangars.
  • Safely operate floor cleaning equipment inside the hangars.
  • Maintain fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment used daily.
  • Report all equipment problems or failures to supervisor or a mechanic immediately.
  • Refuel and clean all equipment upon completion of assignment daily.
  • Return all equipment to the designated area upon completion of the task.
  • Keep the equipment storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Affect repairs to related equipment as necessary to keep in proper and safe working order.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Employment standards:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to meet the requirements of driver insurability as established by the insurance carrier is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area construction/maintenance work.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Most of the work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions common to Texas.
  • Exposure to maintenance equipment; including, but not limited to moving parts, heights, noise, airborne debris, vibration and fumes.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe and environmentally responsible work environment.
  • Possess the physical strength, stamina and agility to perform the assigned duties.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to walk, sit and stand for a long period of time, as a daily routine.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
