Job Overview:

Manages and ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the Engineering and Housekeeping departments. Maintains and ensures all property, grounds and mechanical structures have met all safety standards and/or requirements. Responsible for the cleanliness of the entire hotel – all public areas, all guestrooms and all employee areas. Performs inspections and walkthroughs. Manages and resolves all staffing issues.

Reports to: General Manager

Required Skills/ Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English with guests/visitors/vendors and hotel staff to their understanding.
  • Ability to provide legible communication.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry & kitchen/restaurant equipment.
  • Ability to control department budgets and control all costs
  • Ability to problem solve, and work in fast paced environment under pressure.
  • Second language (Spanish) preferable
  • Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision and motivate the team
  • Very focused on attention to detail in all areas, and be able to prioritize.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance, capex projects and other large projects based on business levels

Task and Duties:

All areas :

  • Support and promote hotel and company programs, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare annual Housekeeping, Engineering and Valet budget, and ensure departments operate within their budgets.
  • Staffing: hire, train, schedule, discipline, and retain capable and qualified personnel. Develop training plans and ensure all staff are properly trained and aware of all safety requirements for the property.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership of a diverse team, and instills positive motivation in the team.

Housekeeping :

  • Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Housekeeping department resulting in a unique and seamless guest experience.
  • Maintain superior quality of housekeeping standards in all areas of responsibility: guest rooms, linens and uniforms, lost and found, laundry and overnight cleaning.
  • Assign rooms, delegate tasks, inspect and appraise performance. Review schedule daily to ensure staffing levels meet the needs of the business.
  • Coordinate and facilitate cleaning of guest room carpet, upholstery and drapery as needed. Also responsible for the lobby, public restrooms, hallways, entrances and elevators.
  • Coordinate and facilitate periodic deep cleaning projects, including lobby carpets, walls and baseboards, windows, and elevator doors and tracks.
  • Partner with F&B and Front Office to ensure that any special requests in public area, meeting room or guest rooms are met accordingly.
  • Conduct inspection tours in areas of responsibility to ensure proper standards of quality, service, and cleanliness are met. Direct and redirect action when necessary.
  • Work with all departments to ensure a quality product and high level of service is delivered to our guests and patrons. Inspect incoming laundry service to ensure quality, consistency, and timeliness of pick up and delivery
  • Establish quality-cleaning programs to ensure appearance and life of all furniture, fixtures and equipment.
  • Engineering :
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all federal, state, local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, conduct inspections and drills, ensure compliance with all codes and regulations, train all employees and maintain accurate logs and records to ensure a safe environment which protects the asset, guests and employees.
  • Provide adequate inventory of parts, supplies, tools, and materials for department.
  • Develops, implements and oversees preventive maintenance program.
  • Receives communication from property staff on maintenance concerns and/or requests and ensures problems are fixed in a timely and quality manner.
  • Position is responsible for the short and long term planning and day-to-day operations of the engineering department.
  • Solicit and administer all sub-contract work; Analyze bids and verify quantities, as appropriate.
  • Liaison with governmental agencies and manage the procurement and compliance with entitlements, permits, inspections, notices, and other requirements.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance of all policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Design Department to coordinate and execute projects.
  • Is responsible for compliance with applicable State and Local Health, Sanitation, Fire, Elevator and other codes.
  • Ensures preventive maintenance program is in place to maintain guest rooms, mechanical equipment, outlets, and public areas in appropriate condition.
  • The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining all equipment, systems and building components, including, but not limited to, mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, design integrity, lighting, tile and other equipment/work normally maintained/performed by hotel Maintenance Engineers.
