53 North Collection is looking for an exciting & enthusiastic addition to our finance team for three independent, boutique properties in Edmonton!

The General Accountant will conduct day to day accounting activities of the hotels to verify accuracy of financial information. Verify postings and balances, process invoices and group billings. Ensure documentation is processed properly, follow up on posting variances and obtain documentation from hotel departments. This role will have responsibility for The Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton and the Metterra and Varscona Hotels on Whyte Avenue.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Verify hotel postings, resolving any variances to ensure accuracy of records.
  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing for hotel gratuities.
  • Group and AR invoicing to ensure hotel standards for invoice collection.
  • Post AP invoices, review all supporting documentation and ensure correctness, following up with departments to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist with monthly cash float counts, verifying and department petty cash
  • Distribute accounting mailbox items throughout accounting department and maintain records.
  • Assist with hotel month end procedures, posting journal entries and maintaining assigned balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Verify accounting procedures are consistently followed.
  • Assist other accounting staff to ensure appropriate coverage, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, income audit and cashiering duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum (1) years' experience working in hospitality accounting/income night audit required.
  • Must be completely familiar with the role during hotel emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, the use of Incident Reports and Logbooks.
  • Fluent in English (written and oral).

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Security clearance required upon offer of employment.

  • Must have the ability to communicate in English. 
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition. 
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times. 
  • Can communicate well with guests. 
  • Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player. 
  • Ability to compile facts and figures. 
  • Basic understanding of complex computerized financial systems and ability to use it including manual dexterity to operate all office machines.
  • Telephone etiquette skills needed.
    • Highly organized, results oriented and ability to work in a multi-functional team environment.
    • Must be completely familiar with the role during hotel emergencies, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, the use of Incident Reports and Logbooks.
    • Provincial legislation requires employees to work safely and cooperate with their employer by following the health and safety rules for the job.
