Description
The Assistant Mechanic works closely with the Mechanic in the repair and maintenance of various gasoline and diesel-powered golf courses and ground maintenance equipment. The Assistant Mechanic also helps to maintain a clean service area, maintenance building, preventive maintenance program and places safety procedures as a top priority.
General Duties:
- Under the direction of the Mechanic, communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of the equipment with the Agronomy Equipment Manager.
- Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts and repair mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment on a regular basis.
- Sets up and modifies equipment as directed by the Mechanic.
- Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on heavy or light mowing equipment.
- Keeps maintenance equipment serviced and inspected and perform related tasks as required.
- May assist in maintaining an efficient inventory of high use parts, supplies, tires, hoses, filters, batteries, belts, fuels and lubricants required to maintain and operate the equipment.
- Keeps accurate and complete records of work orders, repairs and preventive maintenance performed, including labor hours, parts and supplies used.
Employment Standards:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license or CDL, meet the requirements of driver insurability as established by the Employer’s insurance carrier and must immediately report any change in status of the license to the Employer.
- Must pass pre-employment background check per current employment policy.
- 1-2 years of working knowledge of the general operation of gasoline, diesel and electric powered equipment, of the proper methods of servicing golf course equipment, and the repair and adjustment of mowing equipment.
- High School diploma or equivalent General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
- Mechanical ability to use common mechanical tools.
- Ability to weld and use a gas torch.
- Ability to sharpen cutting mechanisms to factory specifications.
- Ability to trouble shoot and repair hydraulic and electrical system on the mowing equipment.
- High degree of good common sense and basic math skills.
- Basic oral and written communication skills and able to follow instructions, in English is required; bilingual is valued.
- Adhering to proper recycling and/or disposal of various oil, compounds and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.).
- Assist in an effective, daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Must have and present a clean and pleasant overall appearance in front of members and guests.
Salary:
- $17 - $19 per hour, depending on experience.
