ABOUT HOUSEKEEPING AT ELYSÉE NEW YORK
Housekeeping protects the atmosphere of Elysée New York through immaculate rooms, discreet service, accurate preparation, and careful handling of every guest's belongings. The department is responsible for guest rooms and suites, public and back-of-house areas, turndown, linen, laundry, uniforms, and housekeeping supplies. Each space should feel considered and ready for the guest, with operational details handled quietly and without worries.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Elysée New York is seeking an Assistant Housekeeping Manager to support the daily execution of the Housekeeping Department. Working closely with the Director of Housekeeping and Housekeeping Manager, this leader will direct assigned shifts, inspect guest rooms and public areas, coordinate room readiness, coach team members, and resolve guest or operational concerns. The Assistant Housekeeping Manager will help translate Elysée New York standards, Leading Quality Assurance criteria, and Forbes Five-Star expectations into consistent daily behavior.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
DAILY OPERATIONS AND SHIFT LEADERSHIP
- Assume responsibility for the assigned shift and maintain an active presence across guest floors, public areas, laundry, linen and uniform operations, and back-of-house spaces.
- Review occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIPs, returning guests, known preferences, priority rooms, out-of-order rooms, and the daily assignment board at the start of the shift.
- Monitor attendance, call-ins, room assignments, workload, productivity, and room status, and adjust coverage within the approved operating plan and applicable union procedures.
- Complete an accurate pass-on for the next shift and elevate unresolved guest, staffing, maintenance, safety, and supply concerns to housekeeping leadership.
INSPECTION AND ROOM READINESS
- Inspect checkout, stayover, turndown, VIP, and showroom rooms, along with public and back-of-house areas, and correct deficiencies before release whenever possible.
- Prioritize rush rooms and special preparations with Front Office, verify final room status in the designated system, and communicate delays before they affect the guest.
- Document maintenance defects, coordinate access with Engineering, and confirm that completed repairs meet housekeeping presentation and cleanliness standards.
- Verify the correct placement and condition of linen, terry, amenities, equipment, guest supplies, and personalized room preparations.
- Follow established procedures for Do Not Disturb rooms, refused service, room entry, key control, lost and found, guest belongings, and pest sightings.
GUEST EXPERIENCE AND HOTEL COORDINATION
- Respond to guest requests and concerns promptly and discreetly, take ownership within assigned authority, and confirm follow-up before the matter is closed.
- Recognize returning guests and help prepare known preferences so the room feels personal, considered, and ready for their return.
- Coordinate with Front Office, Engineering, Security, Food and Beverage, and Guest Relations to resolve room readiness, maintenance, delivery, privacy, and service concerns.
- Protect guest privacy and minimize operational visibility during room service, inspections, recovery, and internal communication.
TEAM SUPERVISION AND DEVELOPMENT
- Supervise, coach, and support room attendants, housepersons, laundry attendants, and other assigned team members during the shift.
- Conduct lineups and in-the-moment training on standard operating procedures, the Elysée expectations, Leading Quality Assurance criteria, safety, and guest interaction.
- Document attendance, productivity, conduct, and quality concerns accurately, provide immediate coaching when appropriate, and elevate formal performance matters to housekeeping leadership.
- Support onboarding and skill development by demonstrating approved methods, observing performance, and confirming that team members can complete assigned tasks safely and consistently.
INVENTORY ADMINISTRATION AND SAFETY
- Monitor floor and departmental par levels for linen, terry, amenities, guest supplies, uniforms, cleaning products, and equipment, and report shortages before they affect service.
- Support receiving, distribution, inventory counts, storage controls, guest laundry, staff uniforms, and lost-and-found administration according to department procedures.
- Administer the employee uniform program, including uniform issuance and returns, assignment tracking, organization, inventory counts, sizing records, condition monitoring, replacement requests, storage, and coordination of cleaning or repair as required
- Ensure equipment and chemicals are stored and used correctly, Safety Data Sheets are accessible, and required personal protective equipment is available and worn.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, checklists, room status updates, discrepancy reports, maintenance requests, key records, and shift documentation.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND BRAND STEWARDSHIP
- Maintain continuous readiness for Leading Quality Assurance assessments and uphold Forbes Five-Star, hotel, safety, sanitation, and internal inspection standards.
- Participate in departmental audits, identify recurring deficiencies, and complete assigned corrective action, retraining, and follow-up inspections.
- Maintain professional standards for conduct, grooming, punctuality, attendance, communication, and respectful interaction with guests and team members.
- Remain flexible to support changing business needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special hotel activity.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong shift leadership, communication, organization, and follow-through, with the judgment to resolve routine concerns and elevate higher-risk matters promptly.
- Working knowledge of guest room cleaning, room inspection, public area care, turndown, laundry and linen operations, sanitation, and housekeeping safety practices.
- The ability to manage competing room priorities, maintain accurate status information, and coordinate effectively with hotel departments.
- The ability to coach team members respectfully, document performance accurately, and maintain consistent standards in a unionized work environment.
- Strong administrative and inventory-control skills, with the ability to maintain accurate employee uniform records, monitor inventory and par levels, and ensure organized issuance, return, storage, and replacement processes.
- Familiarity with luxury service standards, Leading Quality Assurance or Forbes criteria, and hotel property management or housekeeping systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of one to two years of housekeeping supervisory experience in a luxury New York hotel environment is required.
- Strong knowledge of housekeeping operations, room inspection, quality standards, sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience in a luxury hotel or unionized hotel environment.
- Experience with Leading Quality Assurance, Forbes, or comparable luxury service standards.
- Proficiency in Opera Cloud or a comparable property management system.
