ABOUT HOUSEKEEPING AT ELYSÉE NEW YORK
Housekeeping protects the atmosphere of Elysée New York through immaculate rooms, discreet service, accurate preparation, and careful handling of every guest's belongings. The department is responsible for guest rooms and suites, public and back-of-house areas, turndown, linen, laundry, uniforms, and housekeeping supplies. Each space should feel considered and ready for the guest, with operational details handled quietly and without worries.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Elysée New York is seeking an experienced Housekeeping Manager to lead the daily execution of the Housekeeping Department. Reporting to the Director of Housekeeping, this leader will maintain an active presence across guest floors, public areas, laundry, and back-of-house operations. The Housekeeping Manager will translate Elysée New York standards, Leading Quality Assurance criteria, and Forbes Five-Star expectations into clear assignments, inspections, coaching, and measurable performance. The role requires sound judgment, close attention to detail, and the ability to lead a unionized team with consistency, discretion, and care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
HOUSEKEEPING LEADERSHIP AND DAILY OPERATIONS
- Lead daily housekeeping operations across room attendants, housepersons, laundry attendants, linen and uniform operations, and turndown service, with clear accountability on every shift.
- Review occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIPs, returning guests, known preferences, out-of-order rooms, and departmental priorities before work is assigned.
- Build and adjust schedules according to forecast occupancy, room demand, business levels, approved labor plans, and collective bargaining requirements.
- Maintain accurate pass-ons, room status records, productivity reports, attendance documentation, inspection results, and other required departmental records.
- Oversee purchasing, receiving, inventory, par levels, and control procedures for linen, terry, robes, employee uniforms, guest supplies, amenities, cleaning products, and operating equipment.
GUEST ROOMS SUITES AND PUBLIC AREAS
- Conduct and oversee detailed inspections of guest rooms, suites, public areas, service landings, corridors, elevators, and back-of-house spaces before they are released for use.
- Ensure each room receives the correct service at the required time, including checkout, stayover, turndown, Do Not Disturb, refused service, priority rooms, showrooms, and VIP preparation.
- Establish deep-cleaning and preventive maintenance schedules, coordinate access with Engineering, and verify that defects and completed repairs are documented accurately.
- Maintain consistent standards for bed presentation, bathroom sanitation, amenities, minibar presentation where assigned, lighting, scent, temperature, and the final condition of every room.
- Ensure guest belongings, found items, master keys, and sensitive information are handled securely, discreetly, and according to hotel policy.
GUEST EXPERIENCE AND HOTEL COORDINATION
- Anticipate guest preferences, recognize returning guests, and ensure relevant preferences are communicated and prepared before arrival or service.
- Respond to guest requests and concerns promptly, take ownership of service recovery, and confirm that each matter is resolved before closing the follow-up.
- Partner with Front Office, Engineering, Security, Food and Beverage, and Guest Relations to coordinate room readiness, maintenance access, special requests, pest sightings, and other operational needs.
- Protect guest privacy during room entry, service, inspections, and recovery, while keeping operational activity discreet and unobtrusive.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND UNION OPERATIONS
- Recruit, onboard, train, coach, evaluate, and develop housekeeping team members, creating clear expectations for conduct, productivity, quality, attendance, and guest interaction.
- Lead daily briefings and ongoing training on standard operating procedures, the Elysée expectations, Leading Quality Assurance criteria, safety, and service recovery.
- Administer Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, AFL-CIO procedures consistently, including scheduling, work assignments, overtime, call-around, attendance, seniority, and required documentation.
- Address performance concerns through timely coaching and approved disciplinary procedures, while recognizing strong performance and supporting professional development.
FINANCIAL INVENTORY AND ASSET MANAGEMENT
- Manage the departmental budget, labor costs, payroll controls, productivity measures, and operating expenses in partnership with the Director of Housekeeping.
- Oversee purchasing, receiving, inventory, and par levels for linen, terry, robes, uniforms, guest supplies, amenities, cleaning products, and operating equipment.
- Review inventory variances, usage, rewash, discard, damage, and replacement data, and take corrective action when results fall outside established expectations.
- Protect housekeeping equipment and hotel assets through proper storage, preventive care, operating training, and timely repair or replacement recommendations.
QUALITY ASSURANCE SAFETY AND BRAND STEWARDSHIP
- Maintain continuous readiness for Leading Quality Assurance assessments and uphold Forbes Five-Star, hotel, safety, sanitation, and internal inspection standards.
- Conduct documented quality audits and trend recurring findings, then assign corrective action, retraining, and follow-up inspections until standards are restored.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, chemical handling procedures, Safety Data Sheets, personal protective equipment, bloodborne pathogen procedures, safe lifting, and injury reporting.
- Maintain effective controls for keys, lost and found, pest reporting, hazardous conditions, equipment safety, and the secure storage of chemicals and supplies.
- Lead practical sustainability efforts, including responsible chemical use, linen and terry conservation, waste reduction, and accurate recycling practices.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong leadership presence and the ability to guide a diverse, unionized team with fairness, accountability, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Thorough knowledge of luxury housekeeping operations, room inspection, public area care, laundry and linen controls, guest recovery, sanitation, and workplace safety.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Leading Quality Assurance and Forbes standards, with the ability to turn written criteria into observable daily behavior and measurable results.
- Financial and analytical ability in budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, labor productivity, purchasing, inventory control, and expense management.
- Strong administrative and inventory-control skills, with the ability to maintain accurate employee uniform records, monitor inventory and par levels, and ensure organized issuance, return, storage, and replacement processes.
- Clear communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through, with proficiency in Opera Cloud and hotel housekeeping systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of two years of experience in a luxury New York City hotel, with housekeeping leadership responsibility, is required.
- Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, AFL-CIO experience is required.
- Experience supervising unionized teams and applying collective bargaining agreements is required.
- Experience operating within Leading Quality Assurance, Forbes Five-Star, or comparable luxury service standards is required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Certification in housekeeping management or hospitality operations.
- Bilingual or multilingual ability.
- Proficiency in Opera Cloud or a comparable property management system.
