Horseshoe Bay Resort, a luxury destination nestled on the 17,000-acre shores of beautiful Lake LBJ in the Central Texas Hill Country, is seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Director of Engineering (ADOE). This General Management role reports directly to the Director of Engineering and provides comprehensive leadership for all mechanical operations, facilities maintenance, and utilities across the property.

🎯 Role Definition & Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Engineering acts as a Strategic Leader for the Engineering Department, assisting the Director in ensuring operational efficiency, asset protection, and exceptional guest and associate satisfaction.

Strategic Operations & Asset Management

  • Plant & Mechanical Oversight: Assume overall responsibility for building and property mechanical operations, including Central Plant systems, HVAC, Refrigeration, Laundry, and all Kitchen equipment.
  • Preventive Maintenance (PPM): Develop, coordinate, and maintain a highly effective planned preventive maintenance system for the entire resort infrastructure, grounds, and utility systems.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations concerning environmental protection, fire and electrical underwriter codes, safety, boiler/pressure vessel codes, and other applicable regulations.
  • Inspections: Implement and manage a robust program of regular inspections for all facilities, equipment, and systems.
  • Energy Management: Develop and implement effective energy conservation programs to meet established consumption reduction goals, working with management to minimize impact on guest activities.

Leadership, Financial, & Personnel Management

  • Team Development: Responsible for the comprehensive training and professional development of a skilled engineering workforce.
  • Supervision & Scheduling: Supervise and evaluate employees in accordance with state, federal, and resort policies, including recruitment, discipline, and performance evaluation. Schedule the workload to efficiently and economically meet all responsibilities.
  • Budget & Finance: Responsible for budgetary planning and control of departmental expenditures. Prepare technical data and justifications to support budget approval for energy conservation, deferred maintenance, and facility renovation/upgrading projects.
  • Coordination & Reporting: Establish methods for work schedule notification and maintain effective means for receipt and dispatch of all maintenance and service calls. Coordinate all records and reporting systems to interface with electronic data systems.
  • Vendor & Agency Liaison: Act as a liaison with federal, state, and local agencies, companies, and contractors on all technical matters affecting the Engineering department.
  • Inventory Control: Manage the requisition, inventory control, and maintenance of all department equipment and supplies.

⚙️ Employment Standards & Requirements

Required Experience & Education

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as an Engineering Manager or equivalent leadership role in a full-service resort or city hotel with numerous amenities.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the application of sanitation procedures.
  • Preferred Education: Technical/other training or equivalent.

  • Management Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of management techniques, including record keeping, reporting, budgeting, inventory control, and cost/personnel performance analysis.
  • Leadership Qualities: Must be a Goal Completion motivated and Self-Starter who Inspires Teammates (Leader) and is a Functional Expert (Thought Leader).
  • Communication: Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents (safety rules, operating instructions, manuals). Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with members, guests, staff, and the public.
  • Organization: Proven ability to organize, delegate work, and establish priorities to coordinate trade functions effectively.
  • Mobility: Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Physical Strength: Must possess the physical strength, stamina, and agility to perform the assigned duties, including the ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Safety Focus: Adhere to all company safety and security policies, reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions immediately.
  • Teamwork: Must be able to interact with co-workers and foster a strong sense of TEAM.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are required.
